Newsom says California is starting to shift its focus from the surge of COVID-19 to its suppression abc7.la/2xkHJs7
Until we build #Herd_Immunity, California will do the following...
- Ensure our ability to care for sick in hospitals
- Protect most vulnerable
- Build capacity to protect general public
- Reduce social, emotional & economic disruption
When will we see the #StayHome orders lifted in California?
Governor @GavinNewsom says there is no on/off light switch but it will be gradual. Until we have herd immunity and a vaccine... there is no way to completely reopen "normal" life.
NO timeline today on when economy in California can reopen.
"Let's not make the mistake of pulling the plug too early... I don't want to make a political decision and put people's lives at risk..." - Gov. @GavinNewsom
Governor @GavinNewsom won't respond to a reporter's question about his thoughts on President @realDonaldTrump saying he has total authority when it comes to re-opening the country. Says he just wants to focus on getting stuff done. @ABC7
#NEW: As of today in LA County, if paramedics/EMTs can’t get a patient’s heart beating again on scene, they will no longer transport that patient to the hospital.
That way, doctors in overrun ERs can provide care for patients who are viable. New directive below.
Medical director Dr. Marc Eckstein of @LAFD tells me wait times are dangerously long.
During Christmas week, one hospital had 19 ambulances waiting to offload at the same time.
People going to ERs without life-threatening problems, are waiting 12-18 hours just to get seen.
Why not take patients to other counties?
He says, “the reality is the entire region is severely impacted right now. So there's really nowhere to go. Orange County and Ventura County, they're all experiencing the same surge right now... this is not overstating the situation.”
