This experience is requiring us, #teachers and #edleaders, to question our practice(s) and the intention behind them. Maybe we don’t need to spend hours of a child's life bogging them down with stuff to “keep them busy.” #remoteteaching #remotelearning A THREAD 1/
Ss engage in an arts class because it is eternally relevant and there is no answer a machine could provide that mimics the art of creation. It is innately personal, therefore, so is the learning it provides. More of our educational system should aspire to be this way. 2/
I searched "#remote," here is what I found. "1.
(of a place) situated far from the main centers of population; distant." "2. having very little connection with or relationship to." 3/
Based on these definitions, perhaps we have been #remoteteaching for too long (decades) and that's what we are supposed to change right now! If this event makes us crave interaction and human connection again, perhaps that is more transformational than any tool could ever be. 4/
#Edtech provides the vehicles and tools to support the future of educational practices, there is no debate to be had on that issue. However, it takes more than some construction vehicles and a nail gun to build a house. 5/
It takes a builder to organize, an architect to creatively design, an engineer to evaluate, and a team to build. None of which will happen if there isn't a reason to build a structure in the first place. Purpose drives meaningful development. 6/
Our purpose for #education is clearer than ever. We build young people into humans. Humans are what we are working to protect right now. As we navigate the next phase(s) of this endeavor, human connection and support wins, always. We should never go "remote" again. /end
