Whilst some people who promote antisemitism falsely claim to be members of the Labour Party, there are others who pretend not to be. I'm now wary of taking resignation announcements at face value as they may be intended to lessen the likelihood of AS misconduct being reported.
Lesley Perrin, a Holocaust denier who was a Torbay CLP officer, said she'd given up her membership in Feb '19 after Labour HQ notified her of an investigation, yet the leaked #LabourReport shows she only received a 'reminder of conduct' at that time and hadn't actually resigned. 
When I blogged about Perrin's Nazi-grade antisemitism in March that year, I therefore did so believing she had already left the party.
That was still the case a month later when I wrote about the antisemitic views of several of Perrin's comrades in Torbay CLP.

But when the Jewish Chronicle made a passing reference to Perrin's Holocaust denial in June 2019, Labour HQ launched a further investigation and suspended the membership I wrongly assumed she no longer held.
The offences added to Lesley Perrin's charge sheet came from the horrific Facebook posts revealed in my blog and, according to the leaked report, she was finally expelled six months later.
I suppose the lesson here is that, if someone is willing to tell lies about something as big as the Holocaust, you shouldn't trust anything else they say either. Perrin had not quit the party after all, which is why I blogged about her racism rather than reporting it formally.
But it also raises issues about the confidentiality of Labour's disciplinary process. Perrin had promoted Holocaust denial, recommended Nazi propaganda praising Hitler and expressed other vile opinions in public but was only held accountable for that behaviour in private.
People who saw Perrin's racist posts may not have reported them because they assumed she was no longer a member. That's disturbing enough but not as bad as the fact that Torbay CLP colleagues - who did know her - elected a neo-Nazi conspiracist to their executive committee.
