@WHO assured us that there’ll be an independent review of the response to coronavirus.

I wanted to catalogue places where China has clearly erred, lied, or otherwise hindered the process, based on @WHO’s criteria.

Thread below, which I’ll add to.
First, the outbreak itself. Supposedly #China had put in guardrails post-SARS to deal with these kinds of things. Based on reporting here from @WSJ, that is clearly either not the case, or it wasn’t followed: google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.…
@DrTedros has reiterated the importance of IDing & sharing details of the outbreak. While he’s feted China for this, @WSJ highlights the critical days China let slip by before sharing evidence of human-to-human transmission & the virus’s genome mapping. google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.…
Of course, shutting down fake information during a pandemic is critical. So surely @WHO would agree that it is inexcusable for China to be spreading a hoax that the US military started the outbreak? google.com/amp/s/www.nyti…
Refugees and others in cramped conditions are impacted particularly hard. Surely, when the dust settles, @WHO will reprimand China for keeping over a million Uighurs in concentration camps as the disease spread globally? google.com/amp/s/www.wash…
China helped produce supplies for @WHO in affected areas. Problem is, those supplies have been rejected around the globe for being faulty. Surely @WHO will have something o say about that? google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.…
Something tells me that we won’t look back fondly on this tweet.
This seems like a handy tool. It’s a shame that China’s population won’t, you know, be able to access it, since Whatsapp is blocked there. I hope @WHO remembers that. comparitech.com/blog/vpn-priva…
Not only history but @WHO and the UN have a responsibility to judge the response to the crisis. China’s tactics - including disappearing the original whistleblowers - have been barbarous. google.com/amp/s/www.busi…
Unrelated but I can’t get over the internal contradiction of “Russia’s International Legal Forum”
Beyond just WhatsApp, Snapchat is also banned in China. Hopefully @WHO will think about the impact of China banning the key methods of communication with regard to information vital to understanding coronavirus. money.cnn.com/gallery/techno…
