Today is a bit bittersweet for me. A year ago today I was elected to represent the people of Calgary-Mountain View. I am honoured that you put your faith in me.

But it also represents a day I think the province took a wrong turn. #ableg 1/

I believe that we are stronger together. I believe that by giving each and every person access to the basics like food and shelter, but also education and the supports they may need to access it, we all become stronger. #ableg 2/

I believe that the point of an economy is to distribute things to people - and that if we lose that point- the economy exists to help people - we make bad policy choices. I believe that diversification is the only way forward, and that helping those who have less helps us all. 3/

I believe in the rule of law -our institutions may need work, but rights, democracy, and the fundamental principle of justice can guide us. I believe that when we allow anyone to be above the law we lose something valuable. #ableg 4/

I also believe that society will be far safer if we support people with the things we all need need - housing, mental health supports, access to education, and community to support them - than it ever could be if we lock them up over and over - in many cases at least #ableg 5/

I believe that climate change is real, and that it is human caused. I believe it will hurt us all, and that in many ways it already is. And that we absolutely must take action, and do it now.

I also believe that we must act on demand to effectively address it. #ableg 6/

There is good evidence for all of the propositions above.

And I believe in that too - that evidence should inform our decisions, and that governments that try to suppress evidence or stop gathering it should be viewed with extreme suspicion. #ableg 7/

The UCP have demonstrated, clearly and repeatedly, over that last year that they do not believe in these things. That they believe profit should go to the rich, that poverty and addiction are moral failing to be punished, and that only some people are worthy of the basics. 8/

I believe UCP beliefs are wrong and their decision hurt us all.

So, today I am glad. Glad to stand on the frontline of what I believe is a fight to save us all. Glad to advocate for education for all, social justice, healthcare, climate action, and diversification. #ableg 9/

So, while today is sad for our province, I am also grateful.

Thank you Calgary-Mountain View for putting your trust is me. I will not stop standing up for an Alberta for all. #ableg 10/10
