Talk about the high "cost" of quarantine, laugh at the absurdity of it, and don't mention that without quarantine, people will die.

His argument was that it's so good for children to be in the classroom, and without being in school, they suffer, so it's worth the risk to send them there.

Because millions of Americans prefer a cult of leadership to a rule of law government.

For people who prefer rule of law, it's inconceivable that anyone would prefer a government where the word of one man (in a leadership cult, the leader always seems to be a man) is law.

In the words of the authors of How Democracies Die ⤵️, democracy is slow, grinding work. You have to compromise. You don't always get your own way.

All those checks and balances mean that things happen slowly.

With an autocrat, though, there is no need to compromise.

"Purists" or people who don't want to compromise, and people who want results Right This Minute, reject democracy.

They prefer what Max Weber calls Charismatic Leader, or what today we'd call a demagogue.

1/ Trump knows how to read the polls.
He can see he’s about to lose the election.

So what does he do?

He reaches into his bag of tricks. There aren't many in there, but they're effective.

His favorite trick: Get the fighters fighting and keep them fighting.
2/ It's obvious why Trump and the GOP are desperate:

Elections since 2016 have been consistent. Democrats perform about 8% better than 2016.

GOP demographics are shrinking.

In 2016 we were hit by a disinformation attack the likes of which we'd never experienced. We get it now.
