Proud gamer dad moment incoming, sorry not sorry:

Ruriko: Lillian made drawing of you playing together in Animal Crossing.
Me: ... It's not a drawing. It's. A. Map.
Ruriko: What?
Me: Raccoons north, our tent south, two trees to next tent. Not accident.
Lillian: *nods knowingly*
I know that every parent is supposed to be proud and think their kid is a genius but I think my daughter may have rediscovered cartography to play video games better.
Thinking this through: Has she ever even *seen* a map? She's seen Dora the Explorer, but the map there is a magical realism character and the knowledge it imparts is narrative, not spatial information.

She's never seen a map screen because I didn't think she could read them.
I remember feeling underestimated as a child and have wondered to what degree I was underestimated and to what degree I had a childlike misunderstanding of the situation...

Memo to self: make sure she remembers the map, b/c useful data point there.
