I hope I‘m wrong, but just anecdotally from walking around in Berlin today I find it hard to believe we are at a reproduction number of 1. Seems to me - even before any significant easing of #covid19 restrictions - people are behaving more ‚normal‘ again.
Will be important to watch the data the next few days but already it is becoming clear how hard it will be to communicate opening up shops etc. while keeping #physicaldistancing behavior going.
This is made even harder in Germany‘s case because we have so far escaped the kind of traumatic experience that Italy or Spain suffered. We are still, it seems, having a hard time really absorbing other countries‘ #covid19 experiences and learning from them.
This is one of the big dangers in easing restrictions too early: Since there are still a significant number of infections a small uptick in R can quickly lead to a significant spike in cases. And putting measures back in will be more dispiriting than keeping them a little longer.
IMHO communication has to be: Things will not go back to normal any time soon. But the better we are at keeping #PhysicalDistancing going, the more of society we can afford to reopen. We can save lives and businesses that way. But it will be hard work for a long time.
