Some of these applicants who are from Cross River, but residents in Akwa Ibom State, came into Calabar yesterday by road while others came through the sea for the exercise.
The governor had earlier in a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, dismantled all appointees at the border posts, asking them to return the cars given to them while the affected communities at the borders posts should mobilise Vigilante groups to secure the borders.
In view of this, as a state, we need extra carefulness with crowds of this nature, because, Uyo to Calabar is a just a stone throw.
At the moment, Cross River State has no Isolation Centre, no house-to-house testing; we are surviving by the SPECIAL GRACE OF GOD and the earlier measures set up by the state government.
Medical experts have warned that Covid-19 is a highly contagious respiratory virus which can spread to virtually everywhere with very efficient transmission.
While we applaud the state government's plan to absorb 8,000 youths, we should also adhere to simple basic guidelines that would prevent the spread of the virus.
