@CAPublicHealth @AC360 @KEYTNC3 @CuomoPrimeTime @CAgovernor @drsanjaygupta @latimes #COVID19 patients are being irresponsibly released from isolation by @SBCPublicHealth while still being positive, relying solely on patient’s statement by phone of no longer showing symptoms
My husband and I tested positive for #COVID19 on 3/24. We were in self-quarantine since his arrival from Europe on Friday 3/13 after the ludicrous European travel ban was announced. Packed plane&crowded @flySF he knew there was a big chance he got exposed to the virus.
We didn't meet the "criteria symptoms" for #TestingForCovid19, so we were tested by a private medical provider. On 3/28 @SBCPublicHealth required us to sign an isolation order. My husband developed pneumonia. I was mostly asymptomatic sore throat & on/off loss of sense of smell.
By 4/3, less than 2 weeks since our first tests and only a week in isolation we were asked to sign the release of isolation order. We refused to do it until we get re-tested fearing that we still may pose a risk to others especially in my case, because I was mostly asymptomatic.
We were denied testing and told over the phone that we were “free to go”. Attempts to reach them by email & phone remained unanswered. On 4/13 we were tested again through a private medical provider. 3 weeks after the first symptoms my result came back still #COVID19positive.
If we didn't act responsibly to self-quarantine right after my husband’s return from Europe, and if we were to have followed the guidance for testing, we wouldn't have been tested, and we would have gone back to work and into the community, potentially infecting other people.
We did our share as responsible citizens, but unfortunately doesn't seem @SBCPublicHealthis is doing their share as public health administrators. Blame it on @realDonaldTrump shortage of testing, still LA, Orange & other CA counties have already provided testing to its citizens.
Considering how little is known about the asymptomatic spread of the virus, releasing #COVID19 patients without proper re-testing for resolution is not only outrageous, but disrespectful to frontline medical professionals & essential staff trying their best to protect each other.
