It’s time that we all engage within a social contract with one another as well as with our government. This contract states that we all can agree that not one person that lives within this nation should be regulated to less than humane living conditions of any kind.
This means that at the very least, the safety nets in place are supposed to be adept in providing an income which would be right above what would be considered poverty for one person. This figure is around $12,700 annually, so about $13,000/year•$1,100 monthly.
With so much abundance within our nation it’s the absolute LEAST we can do for one another in understanding that no matter what your personal feelings are about working, or government assistance, we all have a vested interest in seeing human needs are met in this nation.
On this principle alone, a guaranteed income is not only necessary, but it is imperative. I believe everything is earned, nothing is given. I also believe that your merits are supposed to allow you to go as high as you seek.
However, as we possess a vested interest in the greater welfare of our nation, and to insure that government should truly serve as the extended will of the people, it is imperative that the safety nets in place reflect these ideologies.
$13,000/Year IS NOT ENOUGH to take care of anyone, but this supplemental income which is a result of the social contract we share with each other and the government, would transform our society for the greater good of our nation at large.
Only the possession of compassion for our fellow man can achieve this. We have the means, now we must shift our thinking and understanding that: 1. We live in a new world now, where new problems are on the horizon, and 2. There is so much abundance in the country.
The archaic ways of the past continue to stifle our progress as a nation. It’s not that we don’t possess the means to give people a guaranteed income for the rest of their lives, it’s the fact that we haven’t yet adjusted our thinking to understand how truly connected we all are.
#UBI is the equality of the American Dream we all can buy into. A foundation we all can use to springboard whatever desires we have in life. It’s not something we have to earn, but it’s something every citizen on this land deserves.
