There is EXTREME violence and abuse happening to Black immigrants in @ICEgov custody in Georgia. In one instance, prison guards nearly broke a man's jaw while he was brushing his teeth.🧵
Several Black migrants were retaliated against for their support of a rally outside Folkston ICE Processing Center. Immediately following the rally, they were locked outside the prison for several hours in temps exceeding 80° F. One man, Allen, suffered an asthma attack.
Two days later, guards put Allen, Garsumo and another individual in "The Hole" (aka solitary confinement). For over a month, they have been restricted to 23 hours in a tiny cell with zero outside contact or interaction.

Some state senator drove by encampments on the way to the capitol and decided the best thing he could do is to force them to sleep in the cars they don't have or in pillboxes instead of, you know, an actual apartment.
It prohibits spending more than $35,000 per unit on shelter, exclusive of land costs. Which is to say, it prohibits building an actual home within 100 miles of Atlanta.

It also treats Atlanta in fundamentally different ways than the rest of Georgia. Because white Republicans.

Here's the chart where we asked land brokers if they've observed build-for-rent operators outbidding home builders on land deals in their market. 46% said 'yes' when we rolled it up nationally, and as high as 77% in the Southeast.
