NEW: ONS records 4343 care home deaths from #covid19 in period from 10th April-24th April in England.
ONS notes that this figure may be an underestimate
This figure notes care home death is way above normal

Tallies with my reporting from Friday and yesterday on local authority numbers:
Just on the ONS/CQC data, which they concede may be an underestimate, that would equate to 310 care home deaths a day, in a two week period.

Yet testing for care homes has only just being rolled out (still patchy as well) and PPE is still a huge issue.
Am crunching numbers in between filming today but what we’re seeing is a very large number of excess care home deaths in England.

This is the case even if you exclude numbers where #covid19 is mentioned as the cause of death.

That suggests there might be a lot of underreporting
Also possible that people are just not going to hospital and then dying as a result of other conditions

If so, potentially shows downside of hospitals being undercapacity.

Important to look at policy in the round.
