THREAD šŸ§µ Here are some key take-aways from my #COVID19 update today. We are relying on the best available information and we are gradually taking steps to relax some of the guidelines in low-risk environments and begin to live with COVID-19 in our communities. #covid19nfld
āƒ£ COVID-19 is here. It is in our communities and unfortunately will be a part of our daily lives until a vaccine is available. We need to live life with the threat of COVID-19 around us.
āƒ£ More businesses, services and activities will resume only when they can be delivered safely and within the public health guidelines.
āƒ£ On May 11, we plan to enter alert level four, low-risk recreational activities can resume, as well as low-risk non-essential businesses such as garden centers, low risk outpatient medical procedures, small funerals and limited expansion of day cares.
āƒ£ We are taking a gradual approach that lowers the risk of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians becoming infected. If we move too fast or stray from the best public health policies, we could threaten the lives of many and negatively impact the economy over the long term.
āƒ£ We also want to ensure that the lines of communication are open with businesses and community groups to identify how we can adapt activities to meet public health guidelines. Those conversations will take place over the coming days and weeks.
āƒ£ I know that summer activities will look a lot different but we will work with various community groups to explore how activities may be delivered while meeting our health guidelines. We want their advice on how activities could safely take place ā€“ especially team sports āš½ļø
āƒ£ For the foreseeable future, all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians must continue to follow the tried, true and tested public health measures: šŸ’»+šŸ§¼+šŸ§ā†”ļøšŸ§+šŸ˜·+šŸ§¹+šŸ¤’šŸ›Œ
āƒ£ As we adapt to our ā€˜new normalā€™, we encourage employers to maintain their work-from-home policies.
šŸ”ŸI really appreciated the efforts of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for doing your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our province. Thank you also to our essential workers šŸ™ // END THREAD
