Listening to interviews and Town Halls with Justin Amash, I'm can't help but wonder: what's the appeal?

In fact, when asked why they removed him from important committees in 2017 members of the Republican Steering Committee said it was because "he is an "a$$hole."

A thread.
Justin Amash is a minimal government Libertarian. So small, in fact, the role of the federal government is nearly microscopic in his ideal world with most social programs run on the state level - but he plans on getting there "incrementally" (whatever that means.)
Justin Amash when asked if being able to eat is a fundamental right: "You don't have the right to demand food from someone else. It's not a right. What is cruel is to demand that people give things of themselves... If someone demands something of someone else that is theft."
What kind of man tells poor children, retirees and the disabled who qualify for SNAP benefits that they are "cruel" for demanding other people "give things of themselves" because they are hungry? Then calls them thieves for doing so?

Is this how orthodox Christians behave today?
Justin Amash re: Free College. "I don't think it's appropriate to demand taxpayers pay for students to attend four yrs of college. It can become very "dangerous" for "everyone to pay for everyone else." We could become like "Syria" if we depend on gov't to pay for everything.
Justin Amash says he does not believe poor students should have access to college loans. "The problem with [the suggestion that] everyone should be made equal is that everyone is worse off. There's no opportunity anymore ... if you have everything handled by the gov't."
Justin Amash says a system is still flawed if poor people going to college can't afford their loans and they're paying loans the rest of their lives and they have a degree that isn't that worthwhile. They're still poor. Even if you went to college."
Amash: "There is too much gov't involvement in student loans. You have students who don't want to go to 4 yr college who are then taking up degrees in Romance languages. They leave school with a massive debt and find it difficult to get a job" because gov't made the loans easy.
Just a quick question - has anyone asked Justin Amash if he received any federal financial aid as an undergraduate or law student at the University of Michigan?
For any Green Party progressives considering voting for Justin Amash listen to how he says in 2017 that the Paris Agreement is not "ratified" under our constitution "so President Trump hasn't really pulled us out of anything because we're not in it."
Justin Amash says that raising taxes on the wealthy to pay for social programs "doesn't add up." Reducing benefits to the wealthy should be considered but at the end of the day most of the dollars are not at the top, we have a LARGE middle class in this country."
Do people know Justin Amash wants to make big changes to social welfare programs? "I've always supported repealing all of the ACA and that includes the taxes in the ACA. I think we need to start over. I do believe Medicaid should be handled at the state level."
Asked about how his orthodox christianity informed his upbringing and legislative profile. "I believe strongly in the idea of free will, people can make up their own mind about how they live their lives and they will be judged accordingly." Apparently this doesn't apply to women.
Amash defends free will except when it comes to a woman's right to chose: "I'm 100% Pro-Life." When asked about states not having an interest in a fetus in the 1st trimester: "I think it should be closer to the point of conception, whether it's instantly or the 1st 3 days."
So of course it makes sense that Amash has a great relationship with Mike Pence and "enjoys whenever he spends time with us."
Great ad for Justin Amash: "What's idealistic is thinking that the government will make everything better for you. What the government will do by by having more power is make everyone poorer. Instead of some people being wealthier, everyone will be poorer."

Justin Amash 2020:
Lift the cap on individual political campaign contributions - let rich people decide!
Corporations are People, too!
Amash responds re: why he voted to repeal a rule requiring SS Admin to help the FBI flag those getting disability benefits due to severe mental illness while performing gun background checks. "I don't believe we should have additional regulations at the fed level" re: 2nd Amend.
Justin Amash is 100% ProLife until it comes to protecting innocent Americans from gun violence. A gun extremist, he supports giving civilians easy access to military-style weapons, repealing the Gun-Free School Zones Act and is an endowed life member of the @NRA.
Hey young people - Justin Amash wants you to work your ass off your entire life but get nothing back in return. He's coming for your social security, medicare and medicaid - but he's ok with the Boomers having it (probably because they vote).

#VoteDem2020
Listen to Amash answer a man concerned about how some people will suffer without fed. health care: "There is no way to have a perfectly fair system. The more you centralize the system the more you create a system that is bad for everyone."

I mean, isn't that his job?
Starting to wonder if it's a requirement for 3rd party candidates to appear on Russia Today. Here is Justin Amash in 2013 denigrating the US intelligence community on the Russian government's global propaganda outlet.
Go Putin?
Justin Amash - the only Michigan state representative to vote against legislation targeting human trafficking in 2010.

What were the "potential new problems" he was so concerned about? Wasn't protecting the vulnerable from being lured into modern day slavery problem enough?
