(1) Any myth acquires its plausibility from a grain of truth. So let's start there. Blacks, who were once Republican, did become Democrats. Also the South, once Democratic, did move largely into the Republican camp #RealHistoryatHome
(2) But blacks didn't switch parties because of civil rights. That's what progressives want you to believe. The black switch occurred in the 1930s, when Democrats were manifestly the party of segregation, lynching and the Ku Klux Klan #RealHistoryatHome
(3) So why did blacks leave the party of Lincoln and join the party of the KKK? They did it because of the material crumbs promised by FDR and the New Deal Democrats during the Depression #RealHistoryatHome
(4) Now we turn to why the South became Republican. The reason is twofold. First, racism declined dramatically in the South after World War II. Innumerable surveys confirm this. As the South became LESS racist, it became MORE Republican #RealHistoryatHome
(5) The second reason is Reaganism. This is when the switch occurred--during the 1980s and 1990s. Reagan's ideas of anti-communism, patriotism, Christianity, free markets, family values and pro-life appealed to the non-racist South #RealHistoryatHome
(6) Now, the Dixiecrats. These are the people who joined the Dixiecrat Party or voted against the Civil Rights laws. How many of these elected officials (Senators, Congressmen, governors) switched parties? Answer: One in the House and one in the Senate #RealHistoryatHome
(7) Think of the stupendous implications of this. The vast majority of Dixiecrats never switched parties. They stayed lifelong Democrats. Progressive historians like Kevin Kruse do backward somersaults to avoid this truth #RealHistoryatHome
(8) Kruse has literally pointed to Jesse Helms, John Tower and Trent Lott to make his case. But none of these men were Dixiecrats! Basically he relies on the argumentum ad ignorantium--the argument that relies on the ignorance of his audience #RealHistoryatHome
(9) Look at Kruse's Twitter feeds. He piles on with interminable references to this dog catcher who switched parties, that brother of a Dixiecrat who became a Republican, all nonsense that only a progressive moron could cheer while insisting he "owned" me! #RealHistoryatHome
(10) Bottom line: The Democrats are still the party of bigotry. Today they use the plantation not to steal the labor of minorities but to gain votes through a system of intergenerational dependency. It's a new type of oppression, but oppression all the same #RealHistoryatHome
