What does the 10X version of the NYT look like?

- open source NLP tools
- reproducible journalism, with citations
- citizen rather than corporate journalists
- decentralized fact checking via proof-of-X

We do need a better truth machine…
I think the answer is not a new media company. It's a new media community, with fundamentally different premises.

Global, not East Coast
100 people part-time, not 1 person full-time
Scientific depth over narrative

Media representative of the people, because it is the people.
An earlier thread on revision control for articles.
Another thread on combining Twitter-style feeds and crypto-style proofs for a much larger class of public citable facts.
A proposed feature set for decentralized media, and how it differs from both social media and corporate media.
A bounty model for distributed fact-checking and crowdsourcing.

You'll get more expertise from 100 part-time citizen journalists at $1000/year than 1 full-time journalist at $100k/year.
Assess credibility of individuals rather than institutions.

Substack financially incentivizes independent thinking, rather than rote repetition of narrative.
By the way, one crucial aspect of this will be rewarding good work of all stripes. We need more Ben Thompsons & Donald McNeils, more Tomas Pueyos & Alexis Madrigals.

Ideally former corporate journalists do better in all senses as independents on something like Substack or Ghost.
