QUESTION: The relationship between the intelligence community and President Trump has seemingly always been strained. We asked @GenMhayden former @CIA director, how will that impact the IC’s ability to get its work done in the future? Follow this thread for the answer.
ANSWER: “The problem is in the past we had great relations with foreign intelligence -the British and the French and so on. But foreign intelligence partners are starting to say the people over there in the United States, the Americans (intelligence community) are not okay...
after four years of Trump’s presidency. They are saying, the Americans are not at the top of their game. I fear that if there’s a second Trump administration the relationship between U.S. Intelligence and the allies will be beyond repair.
We may be able to repair the relationship later on, but not if there’s a second Trump term. Two or three months ago Congress, should have held the annual worldwide threat briefings, to talk about the global threat. But they were not held. Why?
Remember a year ago, Trump was very unhappy about what they said -so now they are not doing them, and that's amazing! That is amazing that they're not doing them. I participated in them when I was DCIA and it’s hard, and it is important.
But, they, (some of the current intelligence community leaders) are afraid of offending the President.”
