/ COVID (@UCSanDiego) Chronicles - May 3, 2020

Lots of news commentary today but first, data: 28 inpatients @UCSDHealth for the second morning in a row (8 on vents); the relatively steady number belies busy admit/discharge activity
/ @UCSDHealth hit a milestone yesterday with over 10k tests performed. Yesterday just 4 of 540 #SARSCoV2 PCR results were positive, and serology results still ~2%. @SanDiegoCounty added 131 new cases for a total of 3,842.
/ On the news front...a solid vaccine candidates comes from @ArcturusRx here in @SanDiegoCounty but there's a catch - development was funded by @govsingapore and first doses will go to Singapore. nbcsandiego.com/news/local/pot…
/ Very interesting @sacbee_news analysis finds @TheCityofSac has the lowest per capita coronavirus infection rates of any large US metro area, consistent with test data showing rates at my alma mater @UCDavisHealth are lowest among @UofCAHealth hospitals sacbee.com/news/local/art…
/ Despite financial losses, president @t_tenglish makes clear @UofCalifornia will offer classes this fall, but questions remain how instruction will be given: "If we're going to reopen, we need a testing plan, a contact tracing plan, a quarantine plan" cnbc.com/2020/05/01/uni…
/ On contact tracing front, I expect more news this week on @GavinNewsom plans for contact tracing across California, built on experience with Dr. George Rutherford @UCSF politico.com/states/califor…
/ @UCSDHealth / @UofCAHealth has used #EMR and supply chain analytics to drive data-driven decision making. In this @NewYorker article, @DrSidMukherjee describes the use of clinical data for real-word evidence, an area we are also actively pursuing.

/ Shout out to the @UCSDH_IS team who continues to implement new tools and analytics quickly, as described in this @AdvisoryBd white paper advisory.com/research/healt…
/ Interesting @politico magazine article on Friday interviewed more than 30 "big thinkers" on how coronavirus will change the world. Agree with many points, though I thought it missed a few... politi.co/3bc2qod
/ It is clear the economic downturn will drive crime rates up. Last week, a thief broke into our family car while it sat in our driveway! foxnews.com/us/california-…
/ On the bright side, @SanDiegoCounty residents are happy to have @CityofSanDiego beaches open again - thanks to mayor @Kevin_Faulconer
/ Finally, I enjoyed this non-partisan message of unity, sacrifice, empathy, and kindness from President George W. Bush. As @atulbutte likes to say, "stay safe, sanguine, and separated!"
