Y'all I will freely admit I can't get past this level of mass death. The numbers haunt me. They keep me awake even worse than my pre-existing insomnia. I have made myself watch horrible things so I can be fully informed as I discuss them on air. I can handle horror. But this???
What makes it worse is that this level of death and pain feels needless. It feels like it could have been prevented or at least mitigated had there been a full court press by the administration. Yet they just watched it happen and talked themselves up, and what? What did they do?
How can anyone of them, in honest moments, live with this and not see it as the kind of existential failure that forever marks a presidency? In his final years, LBJ fell into despair over the loss of life and failires of Vietnam.
This man who completed JFK and RFK's civil rights legacy by making real the vision and activist demand of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement, couldn't escape the despair of having spent more lives in Vietnam than have died of COVID-19. And the dying isn't even done.
I'm just aghast that Donald Trump exhibits no human feeling, having gone so far as to gleefully accept the help of our enemy, Russia to gain the presidency for the prestige of it or for revenge?-and to have not used every scintilla of the power he acquired to save American lives.
If you wanted the presidency badly enough to be willing to take it with Russian help, why not actually TRY to be great? I just don't get it. And I can't get past it. Nope.
