At the #Durham Diocesan Pilgrimage Day in February 2020 Bishop Paul Butler encouraged Christians to celebrate the distinctive history and practice of #pilgrimage that came from, and still exists, in the North East of England. 1/3

Things Bishop Stephen Cottrell learned on the Camino that he shared with us at the Durham Diocesan Pilgrimage Day in January: start from where you are. Many people cannot access local churches or places of pilgrimage.
During #LockDown many of us experienced what it would be like to be housebound. +Stephen shared some very powerful stories of Christians going on pilgrimage ‘at home’. This included Saint Francis.
Affirming this form of pilgrimage is a positive way of supporting those who have been (and some who may still be for some time!) physically isolated from the church for any one of a number of reasons. He recommended Stephen Need - An Armchair Pilgrimage through the Holy Land.
