Buckle your safety belts for another thrill-packed edition of #DavesCarIDService
First one today is this stunner, worthy of a still from a Film Noir classic. Time frame is a bit later than you think, as Uncle Ralph and Aunt Joyce are atop a 1951 or 52 Buick Roadmaster.
*to the left is a 1949 Chevy. Buick portholes (Buick called 'em Ventiports) first appeared in 1949 and remained a Buick styling cue for decades; 4 holes were for the top-of-line models. They also became a popular custom car item; I've got 53 Buick ventiports on my 31 Model A
Another eye-catching family photo, this one featuring Mom in front of a 1951 Nash Statesman
These Cornhusker cuties are in front of a 1955 Plymouth Savoy, with 1956 Douglas County (Omaha) Nebraska plates; to the right is a 1952 Ford.
OK, time to dig back in my request pile, as I am almost 3 weeks in arrears (I try to do first come-first served, but a super cool fam photo will jump up in priority). Here we have a couple of circa 1920 Chevy trucks.
"CadZZilla," a 1948 Cadillac custom designed by Jack Chisenhall and Larry Erickson, and built by Boyd Coddington for ZZ Top guitar slinger Billy Gibbons
a circa 2000 UK-built Reliant Robin, famously skewered by Jeremy Clarkson on an episode of Top Gear some years back. Not the best vehicle platform for road racing.
Looking like a Future Newscaster of America in front of a 1955 Dodge Coronet 2-door sedan, with a 6 cylinder engine (V8 would have a V insignia on the hood)
the tow truck here isn't Mater, but a 1948-50 Ford F4
The fella flirtin' with the carhop at Dairy Kreem is in a 1949-50 Ford Custom sedan, with an ill-advised 2-tone paint job, maybe from Earl Scheib. Fender skirts are not stock, but likely mail ordered from the JC Whitney catalog.
I'll give you an ID anyway. This acrobatic act is near a 1939 Ford Fordor.
receding down this side of the street are a 1955 Nash Rambler, 1956 Chevy wagon, and 1950 Plymouth.
The gas turbine powered 1950 Rover Jet 1, which in 1952 set the land speed record for gas turbine cars at 152 mph. A project of Rover, who is most famous for luxury off road safari vehicles for dropping off affluent children at school
A circa 1948 Diamond T, the Alpha truck of the post-war pickup world.
Always happy to help out a Texas museum, but this one is a real challenge; either those are giant kids or more likely a very small car. Pretty certain it's a circa 1918 cyclecar, maybe Woods Mobilette, but not certain on the make.
*Long before compact/mini/economy cars, there were dozen of US brands of "cyclecars" (so called because many had motorcycle engines) 1905-25. Few of them lasted more than a few years. This one is quite fancy by cyclecar standards, havin lights and running boards.
Not 100% sure but I venture this Hawkeye had a circa 1930 Plymouth sedan
Farewell and RIP to the wildest, most outrageous, and most exciting rock & roll performer of all time, Little Richard Penniman. Here in a 1955-56 Cadillac Eldo.
it's one thing to be a British Glam rocker in the 70s or a Prince/Madonna in the 80s, but imagine the square-shocking impact of a flamboyantly androgynous black man screaming Good Golly Miss Molly in the Ozzy & Harriet 50s. RIP Little Richard, you will be missed.
In memory of Little Richard, treat yourself to The Girl Can't Help It, a Technicolor live action cartoon of 1956 Rock n Roll wildness. Starring the anatomically impossible Jayne Mansfield, with performances by Little Richard, Gene Vincent, The Treniers, & more
Not to mention Jayne's car, a 1957 Lincoln Premiere convertible
OK, back to the car ID beat: 1965 Plymouth Valiant
1961-63 Ford "Bullet Bird" Thunderbird
bit of an eye test here, but I'm venturing 1939 Plymouth or Dodge
That's definitely a 57 Ford Ranchero, the other I believe is meant to be a Dodge WC Power Wagon troop carrier
The Southern California Plating "truck," customized from a 1935 Ford phaeton by George Duvall, used to tow their Offy midget to the races at Gilmore stadium.
Pretty sure a 1935 Chevy Master Deluxe 2-door sedan
This Brady Bunchian photo features a 1970-72 Chevy C10
That it for the #DavesCarIDService thrill show today, back for more ID action soon
