Neither Govt's actions were a rescue or mercy mission. In both cases stranded passengers paid their way - INR50k for Indians, GBP560 for the Brits in India. Only in the one case the ambassador couldn't resist tagging his political masters.
Of course if the UK High Commissioner in India had tagged the British PM or the Foreign Secretary and had ended her tweet with, say "Rule Britannia!",
