X : What is the connection between your new organisation characteristics and doctrine?
Me : Do you mean the connection between these two?
X : Yes. Are they related?
Me : Yes
Me : Ok, we start with a map and show how industrialisation of a space can lead to new practices, new needs being met, that we have inertia, that it causes capital flow etc. Is this familiar?
X : Yes
Me : Good.
Me : That this pattern is so common in macro and micro economic changes, I gave it a description of peace, war and wonder about a decade ago. Is this familiar?
X : Yes.
Me : Awesome.
Me : And that cycle occurs through the value chain. Hence all my ramblings on serverless and why you have no choice etc. Still with me?
X : Yep.
Me : Fabulous.
Me : So back in 2011, I could see the "war" in cloud and knew there would be a "new organisation" forming. So, I ran some population studies which gave that table.
X : Yep, I know.
Me : :-)
Me : That peace, war and wonder is just one of many economic (climatic) patterns in our strategy cycle. I assume you're familiar with this?
X : Yes.
Me : And doctrine are just those universally useful patterns.
X : I know.
Me : Well, those new characteristics ended up in in the new doctrine table. I just expanded it. I continuously expand it as new patterns are found.
X : Ah.
Me : That doctrine table is what I use to analyse competitors to work out who has a clue and who doesn't.
Me : and my new research is all about identifying the new characteristics, a new table because multiple points of "war" are occurring and we have a forcing function for change in COVID - 19.
X : And you know those points of war are occurring because?
Me : You don't. But I can use weak signals based upon publication type to have a good guess. It's what I did in 2011.
X : So weak signals to identify characteristics to expand the list of doctrine?
Me : Yes. Gosh, that was so much faster that my blah, blah, blah.
X : Can't you use maps to identify where to invest?
Me : Yes, both in terms of existing inertia to obvious change and also in terms of where to experiment. However ...
... these are singular bets. There is a more generic issue on how do you create an organisation that is able to cope with constant change?

That's where doctrine comes into play. Doctrine is about future proofing your organisation.
