I like this approach because, frankly, Oracle has to differentiate its Cloud offerings to stand out when Amazon, Microsoft, & Google obviously also have strong offerings. Moving past commodity storage & compute to also have a differentiated real-time cloud is smart.
And I think there's a new generation of streaming applications that are going to come out of the #COVID19 quarantine as we become more used to video & audio content. For instance, just imagine Twitch-like payments on Zoom & other meeting solutions which will require faster cloud
A faster, real-time cloud will also help in supporting a #multicloud environment. Oracle's previous interconnect agreement with Microsoft Azure was another step in the right direction as companies start looking at the right cloud for the right use case.
And there's a practical aspect to all of this, which is that humans seek interactions and responses that occur within 250-500 milliseconds to feel emotionally involved. This technical problem can't be solved just with data gravity as we seek ad hoc information & context
I think Oracle's recent unified communications cloud wins are good for the cloud market, as it puts both price and performance pressure on the other cloud providers to support real-time information coupled with Oracle's obvious existing strengths in data, analytics & apps.
