[Thread] 1/ Been analysing some of the smear campaign directed at @TawakkolKarman recently. Karman recently was appointed to Facebook's online advisory council, which appears to have annoyed some of Twitter. First up, here are some of the unpleasant images circulating 
2/ The hashtag "Expose Tawakkol" has been circulating. It is largely targeting criticism at @randizuckerberg @TawakkolKarman herself and @thomasmhughes - the director of Facebook's oversight board.
3/ One of the most retweeted people on the hashtag is an anti MB journalist who claims Karman supported the slaughter of Libyans and Syrians. This account @mkovk has also been actively tweeting on the hashtag. Some more grisly caricatures...
4/ There seems to be some suspicious activity on the hashtag. If you look at the top, a group of accounts are actively engaged in being mentioned in retweets. Note all the pink interactions &similar sized nodes. If you look closer at the accounts a lot are retweeting same content
5/ Most of the accounts in the cluster also seem to be using android, which isn't necessarily unusual, but it is a little more so given the other similarities they have. A lot of them are retweeting the below Egyptian account
6/ Those who have expressed some form of support or concern for @TawakkolKarman have also been targeted. This includes @arusbridger - who RT'd Tawakkol. Other ppl to be mentioned are, oversight board members @nicsuzor @jamalgreene @EvelynAswad @lemos_ronaldo
7 Of course there appears to be a lot of Saudi and Egyptian accounts complaining about the appointment of Tawwakol, which reflects how seriously many regimes in those countries perceive social media and social media governance
