My grade 12 student, & 17 year old son, just came to ask me a question about politics. He is doing his social studies homework and felt the need to clarify concepts with someone he trusts knows the answer.

This is great progress for us. We love each other dearly, but rarely see eye to eye on politics. He has made an art form out of disagreeing with me on everything political. I’m certain he does it to get a reaction. He’s my contrarian offspring.
Humbling himself to ask a question about the difference between proportional representation and representation by population was huge. I thanked him profusely for asking me when done. He made my day. He now has a better understanding of the concepts & can continue working.
Mom is going to beam all day and night knowing he trusts my judgement and made the effort to listen.
