Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB update. 4,866 people have recovered leaving 1,361 active cases. Currently, 73 people are hospitalized with 12 of those in ICUs. 3,173 people have been tested & there are 45 new cases since yesterday. (1/12)
I’m sad to report that the total number of COVID deaths has increased by one to 118 deaths in Alberta. I wish to extend my condolences to the friends & families of these individuals, as well as to all Albertans who have lost a loved one recently. (2/12)
As of today, there are 105 active cases in outbreaks at continuing care facilities across the province. 559 residents of continuing care facilities have recovered. (3/12)
At Cargill, there are 25 active cases & 920 people have recovered. There are 44 active cases at JBS & 582 people have recovered. At Harmony Beef, there are 12 active cases & 28 individuals have recovered. (4/12)
I would like to provide more information on the workplace guidance documents that apply to all workplaces. Businesses can work through these guidelines to make decisions about how to apply the guidance to their specific setting. (5/12)
We continue to draft more specific guidelines for certain sectors to reflect unique needs, such as those we have posted for child care facilities, bars & restaurants. Both customers & business operators are responsible for being safe. (6/12)
For more information, please visit alberta.ca/biz-connect.as…. If businesses have specific questions, they can email bizconnect@gov.ab.ca. Once we reopen, we want to stay open. We want businesses to be successful & Albertans to stay safe. (7/12)
I'd also like to discuss cohorts. Previously, two families can form a cohort to help split child-minding activities & provide an opportunity for parents & children to socialize. (8/12)
Expanding your cohort to a small group of people can work, but everyone must follow guidance & ensure that everyone is only being a cohort with each other. As we move into relaunch, we must still limit the number of people we come into close contact with. (9/12)
Social gatherings where people share food & drinks are still a risk. Kids’ sleepovers with friends are a risk. These activities should only happen in a very small cohort group. (10/12)
All of us are looking ahead with both optimism & concern about what’s in store as we begin to open up. We have arrived where we are today because of Albertans’ discipline & commitment to following public health guidance & looking out for each other. (11/12)
I ask that you stay the course & continue to practice physical distancing, hand washing & other measures in order to make our relaunch successful. (12/12)
