In the midst of a pandemic ICE has decided to embrace indefinite detention and family separation.

Hundreds of parents today were told to give up their infants, toddlers, and young children. Potentially to never see those babies again. Or never leave jail.

This is your Gov’t.
Would you hand your 1 year old baby to ICE during COVID? Forever?

How is the State or PA ok with this? It’s also happening in Texas babyjails. Why is my County profiting off these parents misery and terror?

Today is another one of the most shameful days of my whole career.
Our families in the Berks Center are praying right now. Because it’s the only support or hope they have left in this pandemic.

No child should be deported when there is a 49% chance they’ll die. #asylumban
The #AsylumBan is bad enough. But the admin is attaching policies and practices to the Ban to make it impossible to pass even a simple threshhold fear screening - even if you are a child.
Let me reiterate. This is not even to be granted asylum. This is asking to be allowed to see a Judge.

There are now three (or more) layers of review for positive decisions referring cases to Judges. Zero review for cases barred from seeing judges.

Yesterday I participated in an asylum interview for an 8 year old Quiche boy. It lasted hours. The officer believed that he was exempted from the Asylum ban as a victim of trafficking. The asylum supervisor agreed. We completed the fear screening based on his race/displacement.
Today we were called back, the detained child taken out of school and brought back to a interview. We‘re told a 3rd review was conducted, and the exemption overturned. That the child will not be allowed to seek asylum. He remains detained. He’s 8. And he’s in PA @GovernorTomWolf
We have been called for three more interviews involving children on Monday AM. For those that don’t know, our org @aldea_pjc provides free lawyers for all immigrant kids in family prisons in PA. Feel free to follow and support. We need it.
