The #AsylumBan is bad enough. But the admin is attaching policies and practices to the Ban to make it impossible to pass even a simple threshhold fear screening - even if you are a child.
Let me reiterate. This is not even to be granted asylum. This is asking to be allowed to see a Judge.

No longer must a parent of child show a "significant possibility" they will be tortured. THEY HAVE TO SHOW MORE THAN THAT. That its reasonable (>50%) that they will be tortured or persecuted. How is an 8 year old to meet that burden?
The answer is they are not supposed to meet that burden.
They are placing CBP officers in charge of interviewing parents and children. Literally the agency that puts kids in cages decides whether that child gets to see a judge? See the conflict?
Prior to and at the beginning of the Interview a parent and child are read the rules of the interview. So they know what to expect. However now they are given two sets of rules, one at the beginning, and one in the middle of the interview.
Then for good measure, in many cases, multiple interviews will occur, with multiple rules read to the parent and child. There is no chance, or ability, to delay an interview where the law is switched on them MID INTERVIEW.
The reality no one - not the clients, not the child, not the asylum officer, and not the attorney actually know or can expect or prepare for what will happen. Becuase the standards make no sense in our laws.

To deny every case. To send every child back to harm. To ignore our obligations and laws which MANDATE that no child or person can be returned to a country where they face persecution or torture.
All without a judge. Even for a child.
