Today was a tough day: MRI scan and pathology results, treatment plan, and trying to fix the stoma base plate leakage.

Pathology was mixed: previous biopts indicated high grade dysplasia, but no detectable adenocarcinoma. Full pathology of the removed tissue was worse:

1/
a still present adenocarcinoma (bummer) with the excision having clean margins (yay) and one of the 32 lymph node being contaminated (meh).

Some metastases are already suspected in the liver (and maybe other places) because of CT-scan, so the MRI was really important.

2/
MRI indicated 4 or 5 visible tumor regions in the liver, which (given the means of spreading) means there easily can be more (even outside the liver) that are not visible on the scan resolutions.

3/
The treatment plan is to have 3 times 3 weeks of chemo-therapy back-to-back in about 4-5 weeks time.

It means that I have to regain my energy back then in order to cope with the side effects (which are many, including neurological problems).

This is going to be a tough fight, for which I am only very partially ready, but have to be fully ready for on short notice.

One of the important things is to regain my energy levels: contrary to before surgery, they have been about zero for the last week.

5/
Two hopefully better things today:

- We might have found the cause why the each stoma base plate (of the 2 piece stoma bag system) leaks after 12-36 hours. We're experimenting with a different type of base plate, and some barrier paste rings for the old base plates.

6/
- The inflammation markers in my blood test last Sunday were way below what other patients have at this stage.

All in all this was a really exhausting day, for which I need to mentally process the results for a while.

Sleep tight all!
