A few final thoughts for now on this Mogherini stuff for now, based on @cgs_atl & @maiadelabaume's follow up for @POLITICOEurope

politico.eu/article/mogher…
The narrative being woven here by the College is this:
- because there was no consensus on which of five candidates to go for in November, none of them should be reconsidered
- Mogherini, considered on her own, was unanimously approved by the Selection Committee
But if you put all of them *together*, AND you assessed all of them according to the published criteria, I am pretty certain Mogherini would *not* have emerged the victor - as she did not comply with the criteria, but other candidates did
Also trying to find consensus on which of five candidates to appoint, under rather little time pressure, is not a simple task

In April Committee essentially told "We have found Mogherini, we've even gone to the lengths to get the Commission to OK it, and clock ticks" - easier
Was Mogherini's application fairly and honestly compared to that of the 5 others interviewed in November?

The answer to that is a clear NO.
Also a note about her appointment, and those welcoming the first female Rector of the College of Europe.

Have you stopped to ask yourselves: were there not *women* in the running who actually complied with the criteria?
Would it not have been better to appoint a woman who did comply with the criteria, rather than one who does not?

(sadly we do not know who the other candidates were - in public anyway)
And this is the last on this from me for now - I have to dedicate some more time to other matters for a few days. This isn't the end of the story by any means though!

/ends
Oh and *still* - at 10am, 21 hours after the decision was made - there is *still* nothing official about the decision from the College itself. Meanwhile the original @POLITICOEurope is 2nd most read on its website... Both professional comms *and* fair recruitment impossible?
