First: Panic tweeting gets a lot of "likes" and "retweets" and everyone wants to be popular.

Second, would-be fascists and oligarchs do something called "govern by crisis and spectacle." The point is to keep people spinning and off balance.
It works.

For a few years now, people (I can name them on Twitter. Some have large accounts) have been saying, "WE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE NOVEMBER 2020 ELECTION WE HAVE TO REMOVE TRUMP NOW."

The problem is that unless 2/3 of the Senate agrees, there is no legal way to remove Trump before Jan. 2021.
Obviously it isn't a good idea to remove a president using illegal means. (I typed that in the sarcasm font) particularly if you are interested in saving rule of law.

So yes, democracy is in danger, and yes, the worst thing we can do is panic and make things worse.
This doesn't mean complacency.
That's why (1) I keep posting my do-to list and (2) I am doing volunteer voter protection work this year.

This is exactly right. Volunteering does two things. It saves democracy and it saves your sanity by lifting you out of the crazy news cycle.

If people spent their time doing something productive instead of talking about nonsense ideas that will never work, democracy could be saved.

Perhaps this is just a misguided strategy to increase the number of people who will vote against Trump.
Here are some facts: There are not many persuadable voters in America. Most people have either strong love for Trump or strong hate for Trump. . .

In fact, it's likely to get them to the polls to defend poor Trump.

Some people want a revolution. They want rapid change. They don't like the slow give and take of democracy. They want a perfect world NOW. They see Trump being outrageous and grab the moment to stir up the revolution they want.
Others are victims who are being manipulated.

This is not to mention the third group (a given) the far right wing militia types who have been talking about civil war for a while now.
So there are three groups out there agitating for violence.
