Over 5 weeks ago, the man who is tasked with leading @PHE_uk review into why BAME people have been disproportionately affected by #COVID19 tweeted about the issue. STILL, we have no answers from him, PHE or government. The only constant is, people are dying.

For 6 weeks - we have been reporting on this issue:
First we explained why this could be the case. And asked the government what are they going to do about it?

Then we looked at why at the time 72% of healthcare workers that had died from #COVID19 were BAME. And NHS England told us they were “incredibly worried” about this.

A week later, some progress. NHS England acknowledged at BAME healthcare workers were “at greater risk” so needed to be fully risk assessed before working during #COVID19 crisis. Our report here:

On the 7th of May. @ONS data revealed with hard stats, in black and white, that this is an issue - along with some of the factors behind it. In fact they found Black and South Asian people in Eng & Wales are almost twice as likely to die from it.

We again asked the government what they were going to do about it, and whether BAME should be shielding as they are at greater risk. The answer was no, a review is underway...
