Hi friends - in the 90s I was a keyboardist & producer on numerous house tracks and remixes.
I wanted to share a few favorites I worked on.
First, here's a Diana Ross remix with Frankie Knuckles.
(Rest in bliss, Frankie)
Here's another Diana Ross classic I worked on with Frankie and the Def Mix crew: Love Hangover.
One of my dearest friends is DJ/producer Danny Tenaglia. He and I worked on hundreds of tracks together, including this one, where I played a Yamaha grand piano solo over his beats.
Here's My Peace of Heaven, a Ten City classic I worked on with David Morales.
Masters at Work asked me to re-imagine a Bob James solo for their amazing Nuyorican Soul album.
So I transcribed and learned James's solo then replayed it with a few twists.
David Morales and I had fun remixing Bjork.
(One of the credits I'm proudest of)
Fun story on this track:
I wrote it with @daphnerubinvega, and I remember Daphne telling me one day she'd landed a role in a small musical. She was excited about it and I told her it sounded interesting.
The show was Rent.
Perhaps the absolute highlight of my music career (and life) is engineering and playing keys on The Poem with Bobby Konders. It went on to become a deep house classic, played at underground NYC parties during house music's heyday.
Here's me and Danny Tenaglia with a @JanetJackson remix.
The Pleasure Principle...
I worked with David Morales on this @MariahCarey remix.
Nice percussion by Bashiri Johnson.
One of my favorite jams with Morales: Black Sheep - Strobelite Honey
David called me into the studio around 2am. I was groggy at first but quickly got into the flow.
Enjoyed playing that keyboard riff...
Danny Tenaglia did this mix. I added some keys.
A house classic from Liberty City.
A deep soulful song from Richard Rogers: Can't Stop Loving You.
This was mixed by Frankie Knuckles and I played a simple house piano riff. My solo starts around 3:10.
I got my start as the in-house engineer/keyboardist at a pioneering NYC dance label called Nu Groove. Great training at the inception of the house & electronic scene.
Here's one of the first tracks I produced (solo at :38).
Here's me laying down some house keys under Miles Davis.
A peak moment of my life.
