Been a lot said today about the improving situation in care homes. Situation does appear to be getting a bit better. But worth remembering a) that’s from a v high base and b) excess deaths are still up 111% in care homes in England and Wales- the majority being #covid19 deaths. 
To put it another way over last six weeks 34,580 care home residents have died in their care homes in England and Wales
Five year average for those six weeks is 12,652
So up by 273%.

To put these numbers in perspective, 8.5% of the England and Wales care home population has died at their care home in the last six weeks.
A huge figure.
For context, in the same six week period, typically, we would expect approximately 3% to die at their care home.

It's possible care home death figs look high partly because some of these residents would have typically died in hospital (prob a bit of this)
Irrespective of this, we certainly can say that there's MUCH more death going on at care homes themselves.
