We obtained documents that show AG Barr & John Durham, who Barr assigned to re-examine the Russia probe, met immediately after the Mueller investigation ended, raising further concerns that Barr wanted to rewrite the Mueller report’s legacy.

Barr met at least 6 times with US Attorney Durham over 10-weeks in spring 2019. One meeting was held during the crucial time after Mueller submitted his report to the DOJ and before it was released to the public.

On March 25, 2019 — just a day after Barr submitted his letter summarizing the Mueller report to Congress — Durham met with Barr, Barr’s then-Chief of Staff Brian Rabbitt and two career officials from the department’s Justice Management Division.

The DOJ inspector general received an email a week before the release of the redacted Mueller report from Seth DuCharme, then Barr’s counselor, regarding a meeting “to explain what John [Durham] and [name redacted] and I are working on.”

From June through October of 2019, Rabbitt, DuCharme and other officials met or had calls with Durham 13 additional times in the documents we obtained, showing a high level of coordination between Barr’s office and Durham’s investigation.

The records start to fill in gaps about the start of Durham's review and how closely Barr directed Durham’s work — and raise further doubts about Durham’s independence from political meddling.
The point of bringing in an outside prosecutor is to avoid political interference from the attorney general and other top officials, but this shows just the opposite.
Barr had repeated meetings and calls with Durham at key moments linked to the Russia investigation, raising serious questions about the independence and credibility of whatever Durham produces.
The DOJ records obtained in response to our #FOIA requests and litigation also reveal more than two dozen meetings between top DOJ officials and U.S. Attorney John Huber, who Jeff Sessions assigned to investigate Hillary Clinton in 2017.

That probe ended earlier this year having discovered nothing of note, but the frequency of the meetings showed the importance department leadership placed on Huber’s work.
