I'm going to break from my long-established pattern in this thread and talk about my past life: running large scale email systems.
I used to know postfix backwards, forwards, and inside out. It was my first real area of deep expertise. I can still quote chapter and verse from the SMTP RFCs.

These days I instead focus on cloud computing, specifically AWS. I scream at people to stay away from SES.
The right move for @ossia is to stay with SES.

If he's gotten it working and deliverability is high, he will not see ROI from absolutely anything else he does.
Every vendor I like in this space costs more. (My Last Week in AWS newsletter sends via @Sendgrid, which I adore--but is also going to cost way more than $2K at that volume.)
If I were to do battle with email systems again, I'd be spending a LOT of time worrying about deliverability.

I used to pitch in with SORBS, and helped run the SPAM-L and later SDLUS newsletters. I know what I'm talking about. It's an absolute bear.
At 20 million emails a month, @ossia clearly has a broad and vast audience. Reaching that audience for $2K is a screaming deal.

In his shoes I'd pay $20K a month for that reach without blinking and still consider it a wonderful trade.
