THREAD. 1. New research shows @DHSCgovuk #childhoodobesity plan proposals to restrict advertising on TV, online, social media and price offers are exactly the areas 11-19 most recall, & could be useful contribution to tackling this issue.

3. Meanwhile, we've been even more of a captive audience for new #junkfood marketing tactics during lockdown, as this excellent blog from @CernyCaroline at @OHA_updates eloquently and brilliantly explains: bit.ly/2WUzhd1
4. And these 👆are not isolated examples. @childrensfood's own @goodfoodforwho exposes even further how companies have been manipulating our goodwill, exploiting isolation & boredom, playing to heartstrings ... to sell us #Junkfood for the last 8 weeks sustainweb.org/blogs/may20_ju…
5. Tonight on @ITV during @BGT, watched by nearly a million kids each week, we'll see this pushed further with #PeoplesAdBreak in which the public was invited to remake home versions of ads, incl @OfficialHARIBO & @walkers_crisps ads.
6. Let's be very clear. Neither @OfficialHARIBO nor @walkers_crisps are allowed to advertise HFSS products directly on children's media, during kids' TV programmes, or anywhere with 25%+ under-16 audience. (Despite only 19% of UK actually being under 16)
7. This means brands can happily carry on targeting families with kids watching Saturday evening entertainment shows. Last year, @OHA_updates showed kids were force fed 4.5 minutes of junk food advertising during just 1 episode of @BGT. news.sky.com/story/in-one-b…
8. But, what's this we see? Looks like this group of #artpranksters @SpecialPatrols have seen right through @ITV @OfficialHARIBO @walkers_crisps tactics, and produced their own take on #PeoplesAdBreak. It's hilarious!
9. Before COVID19 struck, as part of @10DowningStreet's Childhood #Obesity Plan, @DCMS @DHSCgovuk were working to introduce restrictions on HFSS advertising & marketing, incl a TV/online #9pmwatershed. Based on all of this 👆👆we def now need to dust off those plans.
10. We want companies to adopt a voluntary moratorium on #JunkFoodAds before 9pm NOW, until govt pushes through that regulation. Gambling companies already stopped advertising. Junk food brands should do the same. #AdEnough #PeoplesAdBreak END.
