Quite apart from what Cummings did and said I don't honestly get the logic of retaining him in government, where the evidence is he isn't particularly effective (at best) and will keep being the story given there will be no election (where he is effective) for four years.
Its been suggested that he's the only person in government with a post-Brexit vision. All I've seen is a bit of flimsy independent regulation and future tech talk. Plus some clearly insecure Brexiteers who seem to think their project is ruined without him.
Slightly more convincingly I've heard the PM needs things presented to him in a certain way and doesn't trust too many people. Not uncommon in a leader. But which would leave him very dependent, in particularly in an individual with a gift for upsetting people.
Amazingly how quickly we get back to the absence of any coherent rationale to Johnson's government, covered up with slogans. Dare one say it, perhaps they'd be better for a while trying to find the vision and losing those whose arrogance probably prevents that happening?
