Construction noise thread
Hopefully you are enjoying some peace & quiet today but wonder why so much construction disruption in TH out of hours?
It maybe to do with the fact that @TowerHamletsNow is unusually lenient on developers
Only 16 enforcement actions all types in 2019
1/
In 2019 Tower Hamlets issued 16 enforcement actions in total
versus
Ealing 433
Newham 165
Southwark 86
Hackney 29
Ranked 26th out of 32 London Boroughs for enforcement actions
2/
But we have more construction related activity then anybody else
For housing starts + completion we ranked number one last year & every year for a decade now
Ealing with highest number of enforcement actions was 2nd highest deliverer of new homes!
3/
@TowerHamletsNow may answer that we tend to have a smaller number of planning applications then neighbours (more apartment blocks, less houses)
True but even if you divide number of applications by enforcement actions we still rank poorly, 25th out of 32 in London
4/
Another example of how keen we are to help
Looked at this mornings list of planning applications under consultation, saw a minor one on new dockside cooling system in my ward, but has already been approved by officers ahead of end of consultation period! too late to comment!
5/
As I was writing this a resident sent me an email asking whether developers were allowed to work on a bank holiday Monday, answer is NO unless Council gave permission (Consort Place on Byng Street)
To follow letter to Council about proposal by government to allow late working
6/
The reality is that despite lots & lots of money from developers we use our enforcement powers very rarely on them & tend to say yes to any request for out of hours working
Developers more important than todays residents
