The lockdown helped to flatten the curve and gave us time to prepare health services.
Flattening the curve is an everyday effort. We need people to be aware of the dangers of #COVID19
We are now dealing with internal transmissions. We have seen a 25% increase in positive cases in the last week.
The number of deaths is showing an upward slope, with the most numbers in the Western Cape.
We have done 59 677 tests so far and almost 12 922 yesterday.
2999 of yesterday’s tests have been from community testing.
33% of tests have been done in Gauteng. The numbers of tests in all provinces is quite large.

We must focus of contact tracing, 44042 contacts have been identified through tracing. To date 93% of contacts have been monitored in South Africa.
The number of hospitalised patients is highest in the Western Cape. We are going to see more hospitilisation in all the provinces. We have quarantine sites planned in all provinces, so those with mild symptoms can be placed here.
The Cuban reinforcement team has been deployed in all provinces. The military brigade will also be deployed to assist.

KZN has a high death toll, more than 6 patients have died from one institution. We need to get into why this is so. We have now decided the hospital needs to be closed down and an investigation needs to be launched.
On the #COVID19 situation, the disease is new, so we act as we learn. As we speak now we have records of research. People who exhale air while wearing a mask that are infected reduce the spread of the infection.
When we reduce large gatherings (Church, Football, etc) all of this reduced the spread. The number of new infections is not increasing as much as it would’ve been. The borders have also been closed preventing new imported infections.
