The kind of power that #AmyCooper believed she possessed when she called the police on #ChristianCooper, a black man who simply asked her to put her dog on a leash in Central Park, is the kind of power white women have always had in this country. #TheyWereHerProperty
Since the colonial period, law and custom gave white women power over the lives and deaths of African-descended people. #TheyWereHerProperty talks all about this. Long before securing the vote, they could brutalize or kill black folks, or have them killed, with near impunity.
Stop calling the cops on black people who aren’t doing anything wrong. We see how deadly these calls can be. A Minneapolis cop kneeled on #GeorgeFloyd's neck for at least 5 minutes, in spite of Floyd telling him he couldn’t breathe. Floyd was motionless before leaving the scene.
Why were the cops called? Because someone allegedly used fake money to pay for items at a local store and Floyd "fit the suspect's description." He's dead over fake money. They will defame his character and sully his name. Whatever. Truth is #GeorgeFloyd did not deserve to die.
And Amy’s pulling the classic "my-life-is-over-because-people-found-out-I'm-a-racist" bit. She'll be fine and she'll fall forward. Meanwhile #GeorgeFloyd's life is over because of a non-emergency call to the cops, just like the bs call she made on #ChristianCooper. #BLM
