Opening up religious places isn’t the best thing to do as the first step.

1. Most places are closed spaces.
2. Density is highest inside most places.
3. Elderly and vulnerable are most likely to visit and come in contact with infected people.

Guidelines for preventing large congregations must be clear, strict and binding throughout the country.

The next course of infection spread occurs mostly thorough clusters. Among them clusters that mix elderly and other vulnerable with healthy are more dangerous. #Unlock1 2ofN
Reverse Quarantine should be the guiding principle. Protecting the vulnerable shouldn’t be simply a rhetoric. Advisory for protecting the elderly, immunocompromised, undernourished children and women, disabled should be clear and strictly implemented in all areas.

Thread is about #lockdowns.

The ubiquitous purpose of #lockdown is that it gives time to prepare the health system to meet any potential surge in cases. It is the only greatest unequivocal advantage.

Most countries weren't prepared fully to meet the surge in #COVIDー19 cases
Myths: It can flatten the curve like magical action

Fact: #lockdowns can only reduce the rate of transmission. In addition, flattening is further decided by human behaviour (implementation), density and clustering of cases (dispersion index)etc
Myth: Lockdowns are temporary measures to wait for vaccine or till get you drugs for covid19.

Fact: There are huge social and economic costs. No country can afford to continue lockdowns until either a vaccine or drug is available; real purpose of a lockdown is to prepare better.

As travel eases, cases will continue rise. Surge in cases in areas of low transmission is mostly due to import from other areas. Syndromic Surveillance & Testing has to be strengthened at every level.

Most parts of India are susceptible.
To reduce mortality, detect every case
1. Expand the case definition of #COVID19.

Include :-
Loss of smell
Loss of Taste
Myalgia
Chills
Headache
2. Follow syndromic approach by following the above expanded case definition .

3. Encourage home isolation for people with mild illness.

4. Breathing difficulties need immediate attention and hospitalization where oxygen supply is available
