White people, we need to stop turning blind eyes to this, stop pretending that it's "bad apples" in the police.
We need to stand with our black friends, neighbours, colleagues, coworkers, classmates, and yes, even strangers.
But we also need to make a conscious decision to not make this about us. It's not about us. This about the countless black lives that have been cut short.
It's about acknowledging that we owe black people the dignity to control their movement. That we, as a privileged people, owe it to them to amplify their voices without distorting them. And that we show up for them, every time.
For all of American history, we've been the stars of the show. Everything was about making us comfortable, safe, seen.
It's long past time for us to pass the torch.
We aren't in the spotlight, but we can use the social capital we have to point it in the right direction.
