Some people think that "radical" means violent; it's not. Radical refers not to the method of achieving change but to the depth and degree of change that we need to aim for.
The longer-lasting and deeper the change we need to aim for, the more power we need to build to sustainable achieve it. Radical change is impossible without power building.
Enter, violence. Violence is actually among the best things that can happen for the reactionary agenda, that's why they instigate it. Violent protest is one of the quickest way to get nowhere and give up power.
It works in reverse too, every time they're violent against us they legitimize our struggle and so they give it power. Nonviolence does not mean a lack of conflict, it's waging war by other means.
