The two engine SP rail cars were able to haul one or two carriages to gain extra passenger capacity when required.

SP3 and SP4 were coal burners SP5 > SP9 oil burners

In 1950s the other SP railcars were converted to carriages.

SP class ex-300hp Sentinel Cammell steam railcar, converted to loco hauled carriage, Hobart yard, early 1960's. The TGR had plans to convert these units to diesel-electric drive.
