1282 was built by Montreal Locomotive Co in 1907, #42656, as 221. It was renumbered 1282 in 1912 and became CN 1282, Class H-6-b, in 1920. It was sold as Commonwealth Rys 77 in May 1942

After the war the CN locos were used only when needed and they were withdrawn by 1952 and all scrapped c.1957. They were a big help for the war effort.
