"democratic decision of the people" is the sort of language that used to be associated with communist bloc countries in the 1980s to mean a decision taken by a handful of people at the centre...
And then the reality - ruling out an extension means if we want a deal we're under more pressure to just accept what the EU wants with a few symbolic concessions. If we don't want a deal our agricultural and manufacturing sectors in particular are vulnerable.
June, 5 months after leaving the EU, still no particular vision of the UK's future post-Brexit. There's only so long you can claim to be implementing a referendum the result of which has already been implemented, before you need some new lines.
Incidentally the counter a misperception in UK-EU talks - the EU doesn't need to change its mandate to compromise. The mandate isn't that rigid, and their negotiating team will be in constant touch with MEPs and Member States to test their margin for compromise.
Very good run through of potential compromises in UK-EU talks here. Tricky business to arrange such things in negotiations though.
