Pakistan, according to official figures, has so far tested 577, 974 people for Covid-19 out of its 210 million population. That makes it 0.275% of the tested population. This number of the tested has been achieved in more than three months. We have to test 1,522,026 more to claim
that we have tested 1% of our population. Given that the number we have achieved the tested number in more than three months, it might take us 9 more months to finish the task. That means we need to wait till March, 2021 to test even 1% of our population.
You can’t Trace, Track, Isolate and Manage the health of the infected until you don’t test.
Unlike the developed countries, we don’t maintain the data base of how many people have died in the country in a given month or a year. Since there is no testing so we really don’t know who has died of the Covid-19 either.
Most latest studies suggest the Covid-19 affects many organs and systems of the body with long lasting effects and scars, if you have defeated the virus.
There is no empirical evidence supporting the claim that the virus strand in our region is weaker or less fatal in any way than the one killing hundreds of thousands of humans else where.
There is no empirical evidence suggesting that the people of our region have any special DNA or any level of superior immunity to defeat the virus.
In the above circumstances we are headed for an apocalypse due to the boneheaded policies of the Imran administration.
We must not forget how we have got here. Taftan, Raiwand, unscreened and untested movement and entry of thousands from the Gulf, Europe and America are the milestones of the disastrous policies of the #Selected junta that neither understood the threat nor did anything to stop
it. Many countries, both rich and poor, both big and small effectively used the Non Pharmaceutical Intervention (NPI) to stop and contain the contagion and in the meanwhile upgraded and modified their healthcare systems.
Imran junta instead underestimated the threat, pushed out unscientific and dangerous narrative about the virus wasting precious time. Instead it launched a suicide attack on the only provincial government of Sindh that took imaginative, bold and courageous steps to contain the
contagion. Instead of helping it and replicating the Sindh model, the Imran regime denied necessary help it could have provided. The regime missed another opportunity to develop a true national consensus. When under pressure, it convened a national all parties conference
to address the problem, the PM came to deliver his often repeated talking points that people of Pakistan have almost memorized. After his monologue, he left without listening to the opposition leaders or consulting them.
The Imran govt truly believes that it is a #Selected junta hence it didn’t bother to convene the parliament. When the opposition requistioned the bicameral body of the parliament, the PM Imran didn’t even show up. He let his rowdy amateurs abuse the opposition rather than
creating a parlimentary consensus on the crisis of an epic proportion that threatens the very existence of our people.
Now we are on the cusp of a looming twin disaster of Covid-19 and the locust eating out the only sector of the economy in the positive Zone.
Imran government has missed the bus. It has missed another opportunity to claim some legitimacy by addressing the Corona crisis. Now it is not the matter of IF but WHEN we hit the rock bottom. A jet black end stares at us at the end of this tunnel.
